The BeanTheres Story: Brewing Authentic Connections Through Coffee

The Bae family sharing a warm moment over coffee

Hi! We are Sue and David, the wife-and-husband team behind BeanTheres.

If you are looking for a coffee blog written by certified sensory scientists who judge you for putting milk in your latte… you are in the wrong place.

But if you are someone who enjoys their morning cup, suspects there is something better out there than what’s on the grocery store shelf, but feels overwhelmed by the fancy jargon—welcome home.

It Started With a Nespresso Machine (And Boredom)

Ten years ago, our coffee life looked very different. Like many people, I (the husband) usually just ordered an “Americano” or whatever was darkest, assuming that “strong and bitter” meant “good.”

When we got married, we wanted to upgrade our home coffee game. We bought a Nespresso machine, thinking it was the peak of luxury. (I mean, if it’s good enough for George Clooney, right?) It was convenient, sure. But about a month in, we looked at each other and realized: We are bored. The coffee was… fine. Just fine. But it didn’t spark any joy.

The Bed, Bath & Beyond Moment

That boredom led us to a wandering trip down the aisles of a Bed, Bath & Beyond. We saw a Jura espresso machine. It was an investment, but we decided to take the plunge. We paired it with a bag of Lavazza beans we found on Amazon—nothing fancy, just real, whole beans.

We brewed that first cup. We took a sip. And that was the moment everything changed.

It wasn’t just “caffeine.” It had flavor. It had depth. It was a completely different drink than the pods we had been using. We realized suddenly that coffee wasn’t just a bitter wake-up juice; it was a massive world of flavors waiting to be explored.

Why We Started BeanTheres

For the last 10 years, we have been exploring this world together—from our trusty Jura to the ritual of a Chemex pour-over. But we noticed something about the online coffee world: it’s often loud, crowded, and focused on trends.

We started BeanTheres to offer a different perspective.

We prioritize flavor over hype. While you might see us checking out a popular spot if the coffee is genuinely great, we don’t just chase the longest lines or the most “Instagrammable” cafes. Our passion is finding the hidden gems, the small-batch roasters, and the quiet shops where the focus is 100% on the quality of the cup.

Our Mission: To Help You Find Your Perfect Cup

We aren’t here to preach a single “right way” to drink coffee. We believe the best coffee is simply the one you enjoy most.

Think of us as your coffee scouts. We share our honest experiences—the hits, the misses, and the surprises—to save you time and money. Whether you are a total beginner or a home-brewing veteran, we want to help you cut through the noise and find your next favorite bean.

A Few Fun Facts About Us

  • Our Gear: A 10-year-old Jura Impressa and a classic Chemex.
  • Controversial Opinion: We hate the French Press. Sorry, but we just can’t do the gritty, muddy texture. We like our coffee clean!
  • Current Favorite: Honestly? The best cup is usually the one we brew right here at home on a Sunday morning.

Thanks for stopping by. Grab a mug, stay a while, and let’s find your next favorite bean together.
